Things learned in the hospital

[livejournal.com profile] jmartin2, my wife, had to be admitted to the hospital direct from the emergency room last Thursday with severe abdominal pains. Long story short: the kid's ok, the hospital did find what was wrong (eventually), and did fix it. She's at home recovering today.

Anyway, I'm not actually going to talk about that directly, but about what you find out over the course of hanging around a hospital for a few days:

  1. Jello is part of a "clear liquid" diet. Chocolate pudding is part of a "full liquid" diet.
  2. Anesthesiologists have the best pain drugs
  3. Adding a new wing whenever you happen to get a grant results in a confusing and bizarre building from the inside.
  4. Prompt service in the emergency room can be gotten by yelling loudly in pain when you walk through the door.
  5. Even with (admittedly limited) directTV, there's still nothing on on Saturday afternoon.
  6. The soda machine will not contain root beer no matter how many times you revisit it.
